21,000 kgs of morphine, heroin seized in eastern Afghanistan

Enduring FreedomAccording to local authorities in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, around 21,000 kilograms of morphine and heroin have been seized by Afghan security forces in this province.

The drugs were reportedly captured during a military operation in conjunction with the Federal drug control service of Russia and the security forces used helicopters to carry out the operation.

This was one of the biggest operation where huge amount of morphine and heroin have been seized during the recent years in Afghanistan.

Gen. Abdul Khalil Bakhtiar, head of the military operation said Afghan special forces carried out the operation on a residential house in Shirzad district on Tuesday.

He said a huge amount of chemicals including Ammonium Chloride which is illegally used to make drugs have been seized during the operation where around 21 ton of drugs were seized.

Gen. Bakhtiar also added around 200 military operations have been conducted during the year where huge amount of opium and drugs have been discovered and seized by security forces.

Afghan forces have also destroyed around six manufacturing companies which were producing drugs and heroin in Afghanistan.
