The Aghan security forces have arrested two senior leaders of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria Khurasan in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Interior of Afghanistan in a statement said the two senior ISIS leaders were arrested during an operation in Momand Dara district.

The statement further added that shadow district chief of the group for Momand Dara Haji Rohullah, also famous as Khamosh, is among those arrested.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the other senior ISIS leader arrested during the operation has been identified as Hejratullah who was hiring militants for the group.

The anti-government armed militant groups including ISIS loyalists have not commented regarding the report so far.

Nangarhar has been among the relatively calm provinces since the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001 but the anti-government armed militants have been attempting to expand their foothold in this province during the recent years.

However, the Afghan armed forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations to suppress the militant groups.

The US forces based in Afghanistan also conduct airstrike almost on routine basis to prevent the militant groups expand their foothold in this province.
