2 policemen die in Zabul car bombing

Zabul car bombingA heavy explosion rocked southeastern Zabul province of Afghanistan on late Sunday, local government officials said.

The officials further added that the incident took place in the outskirt of Qalat city, leaving two policemen dead.

Deputy interior minister for security, Gen. Ayub Salangi confirmed the incident and said two policemen were martyred following the blast.

Salangi further added that two suicide bombers were looking to enter Qalat city when the incident took place.

He said the suicide bombers were looking to carry out attack in Qalat city using a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).

According to Salangi, the suicide bombers detonated the vehicle packed with explosives while police forces were checking their vehicle.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the incident so far.

Zabul is among the volatile provinces in southeastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are often carrying out insurgency activities.
