During an exchange of fire in the Janikhel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Saturday, at least two soldiers and many terrorists were killed, according to a statement issued by the military’s media affairs wing.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security personnel engaged the militant fighter’s location during the gun battle, resulting in the death of at least two terrorists.
The ISPR added that martyred military officials are Ghulam Murtaza, a resident of Bahawalpur, and Muhammad Anwar, a resident of Sialkot district, who fought bravely and embraced martyrdom while defending their homeland against perpetrators.
A special search operation is underway in the area aimed at eliminating other terrorists, adding that Pakistan security forces are fully determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism across the country, SPIR said.
In a separate terror incident earlier this week, two terrorists were killed by security forces during an intelligence-based operation in the general area of North Waziristan’s Dossali in KP, sources said.
Pakistan has witnessed an unprecedented surge in terror activities over the past two years. The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) intensified its attacks particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan after the group ended its unilateral ceasefire with the Pakistani government last November.
Over the past year, at least 293 people were killed and 521 were injured in 436 terrorist incidents, said ISPR Director General Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, during a press briefing last month.
