191 Afghan civilians killed or injured in Helmand province

Local authorities in southern Helmand province expressed concerns regarding growing civilians casualties in this province.

The officials further added at least 191 Afghan civilians were killed or injured during the past two months following various incidents.

Provincial security chief Abdul Nabi Elham said at least 81 Afghan civilians were killed and around 110 others were injured following improvised explosive device blasts.

Mr. Elham further added Afghan police forces managed to discover and seized at least 350 roadside bombs during the past two months.

He also said Taliban militants also carried out (mynikevisit) a number of armed attacks in Mosa Qala district which were resisted by Afghan security forces.

According to Nabi Elham at least 154 militants were killed and 40 others were detained by Afghan security forces during this period.

Local officials blame Taliban group for using improvised explosive device as the weapon of their choice to target Afghan and coalition security forces since they have lost power to face Afghan security forces.

However Taliban militants group deny civilians casualties in roadside bomb attacks and claim majority of the attacks are carried out against the foreign troops.

Taliban group also accused the Afghan government for providing wrong statistics regarding the death of the Afghan civilians.
