The security forces carried out a series of airstrikes in southern Uruzgan province killing at least 16 Taliban militants.

The informed military officials said Saturday that the airstrikes were carried out in Tarin Kot district.

Meanwhile, the Afghan Special Forces destroyed 30lbs of illegal narcotics during an operation in the same district.

The Special Forces also arrested a suspected militant during the same operation, the officials added.

The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the operations so far.

This comes as the security situation in some districts of Uruzgan has deteriorated during the recent months.

Taliban militants are active in remote and restive areas of the province and often conduct terrorist related activities.

In the meantime, the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against the anti-government armed groups in the two province.

The U.S. forces also conduct regular airstrikes in restive parts of the country to suppress Taliban and other anti-government militants.
