Senior Taliban leader killedAt least 16 Taliban militants were killed or injured following military operations in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan, local government officials said.

Provincail government media office following a statement confirmed 16 militants were killed in separate incidents across Maidan Wardak province during the past 48 hours, and 10 others were arrested.

The statement further added, at least 12 Taliban militants were killed during military operations in Chak, Syedabad, Narkh and Jaghato districts, and 4 others were injured.

The statement also added that 10 militants, including high level Taliban commanders were arrested during the operations in the mentioned districts.

Maidan Wardak province is among the volatile provinces in central Afghanistan, which connects Kabul province with the eastern and southern Afghanistan. Militants have increased their insurgency activities in a number of it’s districts including Chak, Syedabad and Narkh.

Taliban militants are also frequently targeting civilians in volatile districts of Wardak province, accusing them of working for the Afghan government and coalition security forces.

Recently, high level government officials of Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Zabul and Kandahar provinces met to discuss and implement new strategies to prevent militants activities in these provinces.
