16 rebels killed, 21 captured in Afghan police operations

Afghan Inteior Affairs Ministry officials following a press release on Sunday announced at least 16 Taliban militants were killed during the military operations by Afghan national police forces across the country.

The source further added, the militants were killed during 7 separate military operations conducted by Afghan national police in coordination with the Afghan national army, Afghan intelligence and International coalition security forces during the past 24 hours.

The operations were conducted at Nangarhar, Faryab, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Ghazni, Khost and Paktika provinces of Afghanistan where at least 21 other militants were also detained, the statement added.

Afghan interior ministry officials also said, Afghan security forces discovered and seized 2,090 kilograms of drugs and some weapons and ammunitions including explosives during the military operations.

In a separate military operations Afghan security forces seized at least 12 landmines from Nangarhar, Kandahar and Farah provinces of Afghanistan.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the operations.
