At least fifteen people were killed in a traffic incident in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, the local officials said Saturday.

The incident took place earlier today in the vicinity of Zherai district of the province.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Aziz Ahmad Azizi confirmed the incident has taken place in the vicinity of Hawz Madad village and as a result at least 23 people have also sustained injuries.

He said at least three women and three children were also among those killed and the health condition of a number of wounded individuals has been reported as critical.

The majority of the road accidents on the main highways take place due to the reckless driving and bad condition of the roads.

This comes as at least 7 people were killed and at least 22 others sustained injuries in a similar incident in Kandahar province nearly six months ago.

The incident had taken place due to an accident involving a passenger bus in the vicinity of Maiwand district.
