Wednesday, December 28, 2011 – Afghanistan Ministry of Defense officials following a press release on Wednesday said, at least two militants were killed and 10 others were arrested following a military operation in eastern Ghazni province.

The source further added, the militants were killed and detained in Gilan district of eastern Ghazni province in Afghan National Army operation.

Afghan National Army soldiers also seized some weapons and ammunition including an AK-47 assault rifle, a pistol and several ammunition magazines during the operation, the officials said.

According to Afghan defense ministry officials, Afghan national army soldiers also detained at least four insurgents in the city of Gardez and 6 other insurgents in Nahr-e-Saraj district of southern Helmand province in separate military operations.

In a separate military operation at Greshk district of southern Helmand province Afghan national army soldiers seized and defused at least eight improvised explosive devices, the officials said.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the reports.
