At least 11 people have been killed and two others injured in three separate shooting incidents in Cape Town, South African police said, prompting investigations and increased police deployments in the affected areas.
The shootings occurred in Langa, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha, according to police and local reports. Two women were among those killed. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances of the attacks and identify those responsible.
South African police have offered a reward of 100,000 rand, worth more than $6,000, for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the shootings.
Authorities have not established a common motive or confirmed that the three incidents were connected. Investigators are expected to examine possible links to organised crime or gang activity, which remains a major security concern in parts of Cape Town and the wider Western Cape.
The shootings come amid persistent concerns over gun crime and gang violence in Cape Town, particularly in communities across the Cape Flats. Official crime statistics have repeatedly identified firearms as a significant factor in killings and organised criminal activity in South Africa.
Previous crime reports have also documented multiple mass-shooting incidents in the Western Cape, including attacks that killed several people and left others injured.
Police have urged anyone with information about the latest shootings, including the identity or whereabouts of suspected perpetrators, to contact authorities as investigations continue.
