Russian-installed authorities in Ukraine’s Donetsk region said Ukrainian shelling injured 11 civilians, including two children, as fighting continued between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
Russia’s state-run TASS news agency reported on Saturday, August 8, citing local Russian-installed officials, that 30 artillery attacks had been recorded across cities and districts in the Donetsk region.
The Russian authorities said all 11 injured people were civilians, including women and children. The claims could not be independently verified.
The reported shelling comes as fighting continues along multiple fronts more than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Both sides continue to carry out artillery, drone and missile attacks, with civilian areas frequently affected by the fighting.
Ukrainian authorities have also reported repeated Russian strikes on residential areas and critical infrastructure in recent days. Reports omdocated intensified Russian drone and missile attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions, while Ukrainian forces continue to strike Russian positions and infrastructure.
The latest reports come amid renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war, although significant disagreements remain between Moscow and Kyiv over territory, security guarantees and the terms of any potential settlement.
Both Russia and Ukraine have accused the other of attacks that have caused civilian casualties. Independent verification of battlefield claims is often difficult because access to affected areas is restricted and the sides frequently provide conflicting accounts.
