On Wednesday, officials said two distinct road accidents occurred in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces of Nuristan and Parwan, killing one person and injuring eight others on Thursday.

Two separate accidents unfolded in Afghanistan’s Nuristan and Parwan provinces. In Nuristan’s Norgram district, a car overturned due to reckless driving, resulting in one death and four injuries.

In Parwan’s Salang district, a bus driver’s loss of control led to another accident, leaving four injured, including some in critical condition, as reported by officials.

Earlier, a road accident occurred in Balkh province of the country, killing six people and injuring two others. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the road safety challenges in the country.

The surge in traffic accidents in the country has been attributed to several factors by experts. These include reckless driving, congested roads, the prevalence of old vehicles, and a lack of adherence to traffic rules. These combined issues have contributed to the alarming increase in road accidents.

Official reports underline the severity of the situation, revealing that over the past
four months, Afghanistan has witnessed a distressing toll. More than 400 lives
have been lost as a result of road accidents, shedding light on the urgent need
for enhanced road safety measures and awareness campaigns to mitigate this
ongoing tragedy.
