US soldier killed in Taliban attack in eastern Afghanistan

A US soldier was killed following militants attack in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force following a statement announced, “A U.S. Forces-Afghanistan service member died following an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan today.”

The statement did not disclose further information regarding the exact location of the incident and identity of the deceased soldier.

International Security Assistance Force generally do not disclose identities of the NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan saying, “It is USFOR-A policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the U.S. Department of Defense.”

This comes as Taliban militants on Tuesday morning ambushed a convoy of the NATO troops with the Improvised Explosive Device and Rocket Propelled Grenade launchers in eastern Laghman province of Afghanistan.

At least 277 US troops have been killed in various incidents across Afghanistan since the beginnning of 2012 which tolls up the number of US troops casualties to 2,141 US troops who have been killed since 2001.
