Taliban rejects group’s involvement in explosion near Kabul stadium

The Taliban militants group has rejected the group was involved behind the explosion near the cricket stadium in Kabul city.

The group’s spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in a statement said the group has no role in the explosions in Kabul and Jalalabad cities.

The incident near the cricket stadium in Kabul took place at around 3:45 pm local time amid a large gathering of spectators of the domestic cricket league.

According to the security officials, at least three people including a security soldier lost their lives in the attack.

A security official said the incident took place after a suicide bomber on foot detonated his explosives near the a check post located in the vicinity close to the stadium.

No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The incident took place amid an ongoing cricket match forcing the match to be delayed for a short time but the match was resumed soon after the incident.

The domestic cricket league, Shpageeza league, kicked off earlier this week in Kabul city and players from different countries have taken part and play on behalf of different teams.

However, the cricket board officials said the members of the teams and cricket officials were not harmed in the incident.
