Taliban murder female social activist in Wardak province

TalibanAccording to local security official in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan, Taliban militants assassinated a female social activist and hanged her dead body on a tree in Chak district.

Provincial security chief spokesman Gen. Abdul Wali confirming the report said the female activist was abducted by Taliban militants around four days back.

Mr. Abdul Wali said her dead body was found today in Khwaja Omeri village from Chak district.

He said the victim was working in a social non-governmental organization and was abducted by Mullah Rohani a local Taliban leader. The non-governmental organization is reportedly providing chickens, tailor machines and carpet waving equipments for the local residents in a bid to create employment opportunities.

This comes as women affairs ministry earlier expressed concerns regarding tragic growth in violence against women across the country.

According to the ministry officials around 3,500 cases of violence against women have been recorded during the first six months of the Afghan year.

Local residents in Chak district are saying that the woman was first tortured by Taliban militants and was later shot dead and her dead body was left hanged on the tree from 1 pm to 2 pm local time.

Another local resident speaking on the condition of anonymity said the woman was from central Bamyan province of Afghanistan and was working in a clinic.

In the meantime Gen. Abdul Wali says that Afghan security forces have arrested a suspected individual in connection to the incident.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the incident.
