Taliban leader arrested in Logar province

Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader in Logar province today, NATO-led International Security Assistance Force announced following a statement on Thursday.

The source further added, “The arrested leader was believed to be behind planning for indirect fire attacks on Afghan and coalition forces and led several indirect fire attacks on Forward Operating Base Shank in the province.”

The security force also detained two suspected insurgents, ISAF said following the statement.

In a separate operation, “Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban facilitator in Nangarhar province today.”, ISAF said following the statement adding that as the security force approached the Taliban facilitator’s location, two armed insurgents attacked the combined force with small-arms fire. The security force returned fire, killing one armed insurgent and wounding the second.

ISAF said, the arrested facilitator enabled the distribution of weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and suicide vests for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also arrested two suspected insurgents and seized several grenades and an assault-style rifle with associated gear and ammunition.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the reports.
