Sweden pledges $130m in annual aid to Afghanistan until 2019

Sweden increase Afghan aidThe government of Sweden on Thursday announced to increase it’s aid to Afghanistan to $130 million a year.

Gunilla Carlsson, Swedish minister for international development cooperation said that the aid will be increased by 40 percent, and will be granted to Afghanistan from 2015-2019.

Currently Sweden is providing around $92.3 million to Afghanistan on annual basis.

Carlsson said that the aid will be spent to uphold current Swedish efforts in Afghanistan to promote education, democracy, human rights and equality.

She also added that the funds will also be o be used for new priorities such as increasing employment, improving economic integration, and developing the private sector and rural areas.

This comes Sweden earlier also pledged to keep around 200 troops in Afghanistan after majority of the NATO combat troops leave the country by the end of 2014.
