Several students poisoned after drinking water in Takhar

According to local authorities in north-eastern Takhar province dozens of female school students were poisoned after drinking water from the same school in this province.

The officials further added the incident took place at Rostaq district in Dabiristan girls high school.

District police chief for Rostaq Mr. Saberi said, there are fears of growth in the number of girls who have been poisoned since several students went to their homes after finishing their classes and there are now news regarding their health condition.

The main reason behind the water poisoning is still not clear and local officials said they are going to launch probes to find out if the water in the school contained toxicants.

Afghan education ministry also announced to launch investigations to find out the reasons behind the incident.

Amanullah Iman Afghan Education Ministry spokesman said they have urged Afghan police officials to detain those behind the incident.

Mr. Iman also said around 100 girls have been poisoned however local officials in Rostaq district said the health condition of the students were satisfactory.

This is not the first such an incident take place inside the girls schools in Afghanistan but similar incidents have been noted in other provinces as well which has created tensions among the government officials.

Around 60 students were poisoned in eastern Ghazni province and were taken to hospital for treatment purposes while 120 students were poisoned in eastern Kapisa province.

No group including the Taliban militants have claimed responsibility behind the incidents however Taliban militants prohibited girls to attend schools and Universities.
