Senior Taliban leader arrested in Sar-e-Pul province

Sayad district police chief Mohammad Sediq confirming the report said the Taliban leader and fighters were arrested during a military operation.
Mr. Sediq further added the operation was conducted by Afghan national and local police forces in Sayad district five days back.
He said the senior Taliban leader Amruddin was arrested along with his four fighters during the operations.
Sar-e-Pul is relatively a peaceful province in northern Afghanistan however armed militant groups have recently increased their operations in a number of its districts recently.
Local residents are saying anti-government armed militants are frequently carrying insurgency activities in this province.
District police chief Mohammad Sediq however said Afghan security forces have launched operations in Qaz Qala, Tor Qaghli and Al Malik villages in a bid to remove the militants from the mentioned areas.
He said Afghan security forces have seized several weapons along with the explosives during the operations in Sayad district so far.
According to reports over 300 Afghan local police forces are engaged in the on-going military operations in Sayad district.
Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the report.
