Senior Taliban commander detained in Helmand province

Sunday, October 09, 2011 - According to local officials in southern Afghanistan, a senior Taliban commander has been detained by International Security Assistance Force in southern Helmand province.
The officials further added, the detained commander was recognized as Lal Mohammad also known as Nasrat was arrested by International Security Assistance Force in Marjah district of Helmand province following an operation.
A spokesman for the provincial governor, Daud Ahmadi said, local residents urged the Afghan government to hang the detained Taliban commander.
The detained commander is accused of killing dozens of innocent Afghan civilians and governmental employees.
He is also accused of killing a tribal elder and local police chief of Marajah district and the commander was operating in Marjah and Nad-e-Ali districts of Helmand province, plotting attacks against the Afghan and coalition forces.
