The officials further added the detained Taliban leader Mawlawi Gul Mohammad was chief of the Taliban lawsuit and was a senior Taliban judge in eastern Afghanistan.
Provincial governor spokesman Mohammad Zareen confirming the report said, “Deputy Taliban financial chief Mullah Mohammad was also arrested along with Mawlawi Gul Mohammad and a number of the other Taliban militants including three Pakistani nationals.”
Mr. Zareen further added the prominent Taliban leaders were arrested while they were travelling from Wana district of Kantiwa district.
Nuristan province is one of the volatile regions in eastern Afghanistan where Taliban militants and other insurgents commuting between the bordering regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan are openly operating in the area.
Local officials said Mawlawi Gul Mohammad was a prominent Taliban leader in Nuristan and Kunar province of Afghanistan and he was looking to expand their operations in Kantiwa district.
This comes as several Taliban militants and leaders have been killed or detained during joint military operations by Afghan and coalition security forces in eastern Kunar and Nuristan provinces of Afghanistan recently where the areas are witnessing growing violence.
Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the report.
