Both the rockets failed to hit the runway and fell outside the airport thus resulting in no damage.
Meanwhile PIA officials confirm that all passengers remained safe in the attack and the PIA aircraft received no damages. Sources said that the aircraft, PK 199, was preparing to take off for Quetta when the rockets were launched.
The plane was grounded temporarily as the airfield was shut down following the attack. However, officials confirmed that the field was subsequently cleared for operation and that the PIA flight departed for Quetta.
Pakistan International Airlines started operations between Kandahar and Quetta city of Pakistan in late December last year. A plane of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) with 21 passengers on board landed at Kandahar Airport on 25 of December to start a new service between Quetta and Kandahar.
No group has so far claimed responsibility behind today’s attack on Kandahar airport.
