Over 100 people die as flash floods hit northern Baghlan province

flash floods hit BaghlanOver 100 people were feared dead as flash floods hit northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan late Friday.

According to local officials, hundreds of others were missing or injured as flash floods swept through Guzargah-e-Noor district.

Noor Mohammad, district chief of Guzargah-e-Noor said the survivors are in need of immediate first aid, food and drinking water.

Mohammad further added that hundreds of houses were damaged and thousands were displaced following the natural disaster.

Head of the natural disaster management department, Mohammad Nasir Kohzad said they have recovered the dead bodies of at least 74 people so far.

Mr. Nasir further added that women and children were among those killed following the incident and rescue teams have been deployed to the area to assist the victims.

Local police officials also confirmed that over 200 others are still missing and search operation has been launched for their recovery.
