Nearly 40 dead, wounded in a traffic incident in East of Afghanistan

Nearly forty people were killed or wounded in a deadly traffic incident in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, the local officials said Saturday.

The incident took place in a highway located in Pahchera Agam close to Tora Bora area.

A Coaster type vehicle was travelling in a mountainous region when it veered off from the road and collapsed deep into an opened area.

According to the local officials, at least four people were killed and thirty others were wounded in the incident.

The officials are saying that the victims of the incident mainly comprises of elders, women, and children.

The incident has apparently taken place as the passengers were travelling to participate in a ceremony with the cause reported to be the recklessness of the driver of the mini bus.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the provincial government leadership has extended condolences regarding the loss of the lives and for those who have sustained injuries.

The statement further added that the relevant authorities have been instructed to take immediate steps to provide treatment services to those who sustained injuries.
