Kidnapped US citizen freed from Taliban in Afghanistan

A US citizen abducted by Taliban militants in Sarobi district of capital Kabul was freed following a joint military operation by Afghan and coalition security forces.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force following a statement announced, “United States Forces – Afghanistan rescued a U.S. citizen, Dr. Dilip Joseph, today during an operation in eastern Afghanistan.”

The source further added, “Joseph was abducted Dec. 5 by Taliban insurgents in the vicinity of Sarobi district, Kabul province. “

“Today’s mission exemplifies our unwavering commitment to defeating the Taliban,” said Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of USFOR-A. “I’m proud of the American and Afghan forces that planned, rehearsed and successfully conducted this operation. Thanks to them, Dr. Joseph will soon be rejoining his family and loved ones.”

Allen ordered the mission when intelligence showed that Joseph was in imminent danger of injury or death.

Joseph is now undergoing evaluations, ISAF said.

  1. They may have made a progress in flushing out Taliban from the area but drones are not the ultimate solution to curb the activities of the Taliban. Drones collateral damage is high which can result in more talibanization and radicalization and it has affected the Pak U.S relation to a great extent. Also, Govt is trying its best to restore order and calm in the dangerous territories.
