Key Taliban leader Janat Gul among several dead, wounded in Laghman clash

Several Taliban militants including a key leader of the group are among several killed or wounded during the clash in eastern Laghman province of Afghanistan.

According to the local government officials, the militant suffered casualties during the clash that took place between the Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents in Alisheng district.

The provincial government media office in a statement confirmed the clash and said at least eight militants were killed and five others were wounded during the clashes.

The statement further added that a key leader of the Taliban group identified as Janat Gul was among those wounded.

Janat Gul is a prominent Taliban leader who was involved in various terrorist related activities including roadside bombings, execution of the civilians, and major attacks in this province, the statement added.

According to the provincial government, at least one Afghan policeman also lost his life and three others were wounded during the clashes.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

The security situation in eastern Laghman province has started to deteriorate during the recent months as the militants are attempting to expand their insurgency in some of the key eastern provinces.
