According to a statement released by Afghan presidential palace president Karzai was accompanied by Afghan interior minister , counter-narcotics minister, presidential minister in parliamentarian affairs and a number of other governmnet officials.
Health officials looking after Asadullah Khalid in Bagram airfield hospital quoted in the presidential palace statement said Afghan spy chief is in a good health condition.
The suicide bomber who tried to assassinate Afghanistan’s spy chief detonated a bomb hidden in his underwear, the intelligence agency said on Friday.
Asadullah Khalid, who heads the National Directorate of Security (NDS), was targeted by a bomber posing as a Taliban peace envoy in a spy agency guesthouse in the upscale Kabul district of Taimani on Thursday.
Khalid was wounded in the attack and is now being treated at a US-run military hospital outside Kabul where he is in a stable condition, security sources have said.
The attack against Asadullah Khalid, who had just taken over the National Directorate of Security in September, has sidelined a man who had emerged as one of the insurgency’s fiercest opponents, as well as an implacable critic of Pakistan.
In his short time at the reins, Mr. Khalid has stepped up clandestine operations against the Taliban’s middle- and upper-level leadership, according to Afghan and coalition officials. He has also put his agency at the forefront of Afghan and Western efforts to clamp down on the killings of coalition troops by Afghan soldiers and the police, some of which have been attributed to Taliban infiltration.
