Afghan president Hamid Karzai praised Afghan security forces for their bravery and speedy action to control the situation and kill a group of suicide bombers who attacked the Afghan spy agency on Wednesday.
Six suicide bombers launched a coordinated attack on Afghanistan’s spy agency in Kabul on Wednesday, killing two people and wounding 30 others.
The attack started at around noon when a suicide attacker detonated a large car bomb near a gate of one of the National Directorate of Security’s (NDS) buildings.
Afghan presidential palace following a statement said Afghan security forces shot dead the remaining suicide bombers who were looking to detonate their explosives and kill further innocent Afghans.
In a statement released on their propaganda website, Voice of Jihad, the Taliban claimed the attack, and said they would provide further details.
“Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate conducted a martyrdom attack on the main local spy agency in the center of Kabul city today at about 12:00 p.m. inflicting the enemy fatal losses,” the statement said. “The attack comes as a large number of the invading ISAF advisers came to the agency.”
The security agency has been a common target for insurgents in recent months. Afghan spy chief, Asadullah Khalid, was badly wounded last month in an assassination attempt in an agency guesthouse. Attacks in October also killed intelligence agents in the southern provinces of Kandahar and Helmand.
