Aimal Faizi spokesman for Afghan president Hamid Karzai quoted by AFP confirmed the reports.
He said the prisoners who are going to face death sentence are those individuals who have committed crimes such as rape cases including rape of women and children and murder cases.
According to Presidential Palace officials the execution of around 22 prisoners will start today and will continue for several days.
This comes as only few number of prisoners who have committed serious crimes have been sentenced to death after the fall of the Taliban regime despite death pentaly has been considered in the Afghan constitution.
Human Rights organizations accuse the Afghan government for compromising in major cases and the government’s judiciary system is weak and has several defects.
This comes as a military court in Kabul approved the death pentaly for an Afghan soldier who shot dead 5 French troops in eastern Kapisa province of Afghanistan.
The Afghan soldier Abdul Saboor was sentenced to death in a preliminary court hearing earlier this year however the military court denied his appeal on Monday.
