Karzai accepts UN mediation to resolve election impasse

Karzai accepts UN meddling in Afghan vote impasseAfghan President Hamid Karzai has accepted the United Nations mediation to resolve the impasse due to the runoff presidential election.

The Presidential Palace media office following a statement said President Hamid Karzai has in contact with the two Presidential candidates.

The statement furhter added that the issue was shared during a meeting with the members of the Ulema council.

Karzai quoted in the statement said he welcomes the suggestion for UN mediation to resolve the impasse due to the runoff election.

Abdullah Abdullah, one of the contenders in runoff vote, on Wednesday called on United Nations to supervise the work of Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC).

Abdullah furhter added that he is not trusting the two electoral bodies and blamed Karzai for the political impasse in the country.

In the meantime, President Karzai has suggested that the issue should be resolved through the vice presidents and elders of the two candidates, the statement by Presidential Palace said.

He also added that he has contacted the two candidates and the government of Afghanistan respects and supports the two teams with the options suggested to resolve the impasse.

Karzai is playing its own election game for sustainability of his political position in the future which will lead the country to a very critical situation, during runoff everyone has noticed what Amer khel was carrying by himself, but still there was no action by Karzai which explains a lot i think.
