Insider attack leaves 5 police officers dead in Jowzjan

Afghan local policeAccording to local authorities in northern Jowzjan province of Afghanistan, an Afghan local police commander shot dead 5 police officers in this province.

The incident took place in Qosh Tapa district on Sunday night after a local police commander opened fire on local police officers in a security check post in Toraghli village.

Jowzjan provincial police chief Gen. Abdul Aziz Ghairat confirming the report said local police commander Dur Mohammad killed his comrades after reaching a deal with the anti-government armed militants.

He said, commander Dur Mohammad was one of the prominent insurgents leader in this province who had joined peace process recently.

Dur Mohammad also freed two abducted Turkish citizens in coordination with the Afghan security forces.

According to provincial police chief commander Dur Mohammad is currently with the insurgents.

In the meatime a local resident speaking on the condition of anonymity said the five local police officers were killed by militants and commander Dur Mohammad was abducted along with another officer by militants.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the report.
