Indian singer Asha Bhosle’s daughter commits suicide

A singer and columnist, Varsha, 56, shot herself in the temple with a pistol of Belgian make at her residence in ‘Prabhu Kunj’ apartments on posh Peddar Road in South Mumbai.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm. Police have arrived on the spot and are investigating. No suicide note has been found from the spot yet. According to police, Varsha pumped two rounds into herself.
At present, Asha Bhosle is in Singapore for a concert.
Varsha had already attempted suicide by consuming overdose of sleeping pills. Varsha was early admitted to Jaslok hospital in Mumbai on September 9, 2008 after she took an overdose of medicine.
Varsha had married a sports writer and public relations professional but the couple divorced in 1998, sources close to the family said.
Varsha, the second of Asha Bhosle’s three children with first husband Ganpatrao Bhosle, had worked as a playback singer in some Hindi and Marathi movies besides appearing in concerts with her mother. She also used to write columns for web portals and magazines.
