IMU leader behind Faryab suicide bombing killed

A senior Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan Leader who was involved behind deadly Faryab suicide bombing on Eid day was killed following a joint military operation by Afghan and coalition security forces in northren Faryab province of Afghanistan on Friday.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force following a statement announced, “During an operation in Almar district, Faryab province, Nov. 30, an Afghan and coalition security force killed the senior Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan leader, Shukrullah, and two other insurgents.”

The source further added, “Shukrullah coordinated the Oct. 26 suicide attack in Meymaneh district, Faryab province that killed 41 Afghans. He also trained insurgents and provided improvised explosive device components to both IMU and Taliban fighters throughout Faryab and Sar-e Pul province.”

Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in Pul-e Khumri district, Baghlan province, today that resulted in the death of the local Taliban leader Hanif and one other insurgent, ISAF said following the statement adding that Hanif oversaw the movement of suicide bombers throughout the province, and gave direct assistance to more senior Taliban leaders in Baghlan.

In a separate operation on Nov. 30, in Sar-e Pul district, Sar-e Pul province, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested two insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader who controls insurgents in Jowzjan and Sar-e Pul provinces, ISAF said. He is also responsible for conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in both provinces.

ISAF also said, Afghan and coalition security force arrested a local Taliban leader and detained two suspected insurgents during an operation in Washer district, Helmand province, Dec. 1. The arrested leader was responsible for planning and coordinating improvised explosive device and direct fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He was also responsible for storing weapons and distributing them to insurgent fighters in the region.

In Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a local Taliban leader and detained one suspected insurgent during an operation Dec. 1. The arrested leader carried out attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, and oversaw the emplacement of improvised explosive devices throughout eastern Panjwa’i district.

Meanwhile in eastern Afghanistan, Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani facilitator in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, Dec. 1, ISAF said adding that the facilitator coordinated the movement of weapons and ammunition into Logar province and then distributed them to insurgent fighters in the region.

In Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, Dec. 1, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested two insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator, ISAF said following the statement. During the operation, the security force seized 500 pounds of narcotics, a number of Afghan National Army uniforms, and several weapons.

An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Lajah – Ahmad Khel district, Paktiya province, ISAF said. The Haqqani leader directs attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and is suspected of involvement in the kidnapping and execution of several Afghan National Army soldiers.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the reports.
