Gunmen kill tribal elder in Nimroz province of Afghanistan

According to local authorities in western Nimroz province of Afghanistan, unknown gunmen on Thursday evening shot dead a local tribal elder and former deputy justice department in this province.

Provincial security chief Haji Mosa Rasool confirming the report said the incident took place after unknown gunmen riding motorcycle opened fire on Mawlavi Ghulam Sarwar Baloch and killed him.

Mr. Rasool further added the incident took place late Thursday evening in Zaranj city.

Nimroz province is located in western Afghanistan near the Iranian border which is a relatively unsafe province. Armed insurgents group are active in a number of its districts and local residents are also concerned regarding tribal issues in this province.

In the meantime provincial security chief said the assailant armed men managed to flee the area and Afghan police forces have launched a search operation to detain those involved behind the assassination.

Haji Musa Rasool accused Taliban group for the incident however Taliban has not commented regarding the incident so far.

Mawlavi Ghulam Sarwar Baloch was closely working with the Afghan government which is believed to be main reason behind his assassination plot by the Taliban group.

According to reports Mawlavi Ghulam Sarwar Baloch was threatened by Taliban militants in the past as well which has also been confirmed by the local police officials.
