Explosion near NATO base in Nangarhar province

Local authorities in eastern Nangarhar province, a suicide bomber detonated explosives packed in his body before near a NATO military base in Momand district on Friday evening.

Provincial security spokesman Gen. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqi said the incident took place on Friday evening in Torkham border market at Momand district near the Pakistan border.

Mr. Mashriqi said at least 5 security guards of the NATO military base were injured following the blast.

This was second incident following the suicide bomb blast which took place in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan today.

At least 2 people were killed and around 90 others were injured after a suicide bomber detonated explosives packed in a vehicle near a joint Afghan-NATO military base in Maidan Shahr city.

Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident and said the attack was carried out to avenge the execution of 4 Taliban group members by the Afghan government.

NATO military base in Momand district frequently hosts important sessions where majority of the trilateral talks between Afghanistan, Pakistan and International Security Assistance Force are organized in the same base.
