“In order to assess the situation on the ground, the political actions underway and to discuss the next steps in order to strengthen the European response, the Luxembourg Minister for Immigration and Asylum Jean Asselborn decided to convene an extraordinary JHA (justice and home affairs) Council,” said the Luxembourg government in a statement.
Europe is struggling to find a united front to cope with the escalating migration crisis.
Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor has urged other EU countries to accept a greater share of the refugees.
But EU Parliament’s Vice-President, Mairead McGuiness, says a sustainable solution must be found at European level to stop the migrant crisis escalating further.
These migrants include people from Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria who have been fleeing their countries because of fighting.
The EU meeting is scheduled to be held on September 14.
