Afghanistan National Cricket Team Wins Etisalat Cup

SONY DSCThe Afghanistan National Cricket team won Etisalat Cup, a series organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board and Etisalat Telecom Company.

The three One Day Matches between the two teams were organized in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

The first match of the series was organized in Amanullah khan cricket stadium, Jalalabad, on 2 January 2013. Afghanistan National Cricket Team successfully completed the target of 192 runs, set by the Afghanistan A Team by losing their 7 wickets.

However the Afghanistan National Cricket Team could not chase the target during the second One Day match organized in Jalalabad city on 4 January 2013. Afghanistan A Team decided to bat first after winning the toss and set a target of 158 runs while Afghanistan Cricket Team were all out by scoring 116 runs.

The Afghanistan A Team also bat first after the winning the toss during the third and final One Day match organized on 6 January 2013. Afghanistan National Cricket Team easily chased the target of 160 runs set by the Afghanistan A Team by losing all of their wickets in 30 overs.

Afghanistan National Cricket Team captain Nawroz Mangal scored 107 runs and was chosen as the man of the match. The series was won 2-1 by the Afghanistan Natioanl Cricket Team.

The winner team received 50,000 Afs and the runner up team received 25,000 Afs from the Etisalat Telecom Company during a closing ceremony attended by Deputy governor of Jalalabad, ACB chairman and some high ranking officials.

 “First of all I would like to congratulate both the teams for their outstanding performances. Secondly, On behalf of the ACB and the people of Afghanistan, I would like to thank etisalat for organizing this series and their interest in empowering sports in our country.” said ACB chairman.

 “It was a very exciting series, we had the chance to play with our national team. I would like to thank etisalat Afghanistan for their usual support, they have always stand by us and have provided great opportunities where we can improve our game.” Said Fazal Niazi, A team captain.

Cricket is relatively a new sport in Afghanistan however it become more popular following remarkable achievements by the Afghanistan National Cricket Team during the recent years, attracting millions of Afghans as fans across the country.

Being the official sponsor of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team, Etisalat Telecom Company organized a similar sports camp in eastern Jalalabad city last year, which was warmly welcomed by thousands of Afghan athletes and local residents.
