Afghan family suffer casualties while making explosives

Afghan policeAccording to local authorities in western Herat province of Afghanistan, at least five people were killed or injured following an improvised explosive device blast inside a residential house.

Police sources are saying that the incident took place while the members of the family were busy with making improvised explosive device.

Provincial security chief Hamidullah Hamidi said the family members were supporting the militants in this province by providing them with home made explosive devices.

Mr. Hamidi said the family was supported by an insurgent leader Mir Hamza who was killed along with his two sons and his wife and daughter were severely injured following the blast.

Herat is among the relatively peaceful province in western Afghanistan however militants have recently increased their insurgency activities in this province.

In the meantime local security officials are saying Afghan security forces thwarted two deadly bombing plots in this proivnce.

Hamidullah Hamidi said Afghan forces seized a motorcycle packed with explosives along with a barrel of explosives before the militants manage to detonate the explosives.
