Afghan atheletes return to Kabul from London Olympics

Thousands of Kabul residents on Tuesday gathered at the Kabul International Airport on Tuesday to welcome the team Afghan athletes who returned from London Olympics.

At least six athletes in different fields including Taekwondo, Boxing, Judo and Sprinting had participated from Afghanistan participated in London Olympics.

Only Afghan Taekwondo athlete Rohullah Nikpa managed to achieve bronze medal for Afghanistan however Nisar Ahmad Bahawi could not achieve medal due to his injuries.

Afghanistan National Olympics Committee officials said Afghan athletes will be welcomed in an ceremony which will be held in Kabul Ghazi stadium.

 Rohullah Nikpa achieved the first Olympics medal for Afghanistan during Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Tahmina Kohistani was the only Afghan female athlete who represented Afghanistan in London Olympics.

Kohistani was the second woman from Afghanistan to run in the Olympics. She was motivated Robina Mugimyar who run the 100 meters in Athens. She also finished last.
