Explosion leaves four killed, several wounded in Turkey

TurkeyFour people have been killed and several others wounded in a heavy blast, believed to be suicide bombing, in Beyoglu district of Istanbul.

The explosion targeted a busy shopping area where a crowd was busy buying goods.

Soon after the blast security forces reached and cordoned off the area.

Ambulances were seen arriving at the site for transporting victims to the hospital.

Officials have not officially confirmed type of today’s blast on Istanbul’s central Istiklal Street but it is believed to have been carried out by a suicide bomber.

This comes days after a car bomb blew up near a bus stop in the Turkish capital, Ankara, leaving at least 34 people killed and 125 wounded.

No group has claimed responsibility for today’s blast but Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) is suspected to be behind it.

PKK separatist claim to be fighting for autonomy for Turkey’s large ethnic Kurdish minority.

Turkey is also facing a security threat from the Islamic State (IS) for being part of the US-led coalition that has been battling the group in Syria and Iraq.
