16 Afghan police officers poisoned and killed in Ghazni

Ghazni provinceAccording to local authorities in eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan, at least 16 Afghan local police officers died after being pisoned in Andar district.

Deputy provincial council chief Abdul Jameh Jameh confirming the report said at least 16 local police officers were poisoned last night and later died in Gadol area.

Mr. Jameh further added the police officers were reportedly poisoned after eating piosonous food.

Ghazni is among the most volatile region in central-eastern Afghanistan where Taliban militants and other insurgents are openly operating in its various districts.

In the meantime provincial security chief Gen. Mohammad Hussain said investigations have been started however he did not disclose furhter information regarding the incident.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

This comes as local residents in Andar district earlier protested against the acitivities of local police forces and accused them of annoying the local
residents.

The protesters also blocked the main highway between Kabul and Kandahar and called on the Afghan government to immediately withdrawal local militia or police forces from this province.
